Understanding Migration Theories

This week for Social Science our class have been working on Understanding Migration Theories, which is about learning about all the theories of where Polynesians originated from, and seeing where we think Polynesians really originated from.

A theory is an idea that may need to be proven with a piece of evidence so that it is accurate.

The three places that many people think or believe that the Polynesians originated from were Hawaikii, South America and Asia.

Many of the Maori people believed that they originated from Hawaikii and many other people believed that Polynesians originally originated from either South America or Asia. A theorist named Thor Heyerdahl believed  that Polynesian were pushed by the wind and ended up in the pacific. To prove this, Thor built a canoe called the Kon-Tiki in order to test his theory and surprisingly, the canoe ended up in a Pacific Island.

Other Evidence that support this theory that Polynesians came from south america is that there has been discoveries that kumara is native to south america and so on.

Many people also believe that Polynesians originated from Asia because there are also many similarities between the Polynesians and Asians, in  the language, culture, food, traditions and also many Polynesians look Asian. There have also been discoveries of Lapita pottery that has been in Samoa, Tonga and a few other Pacific Islands.

They Maori believe that they originated  or originally came from a place called Hawaikii, there have been many myths telling stories that maori people originated from Hawaikii.

But I believe that many polynesians originated from  Asia, because there has been many evidence proving that polynesians may have actually originated or migrated from Asia.
